Influences of the Sympathetic

Nervous System 01

Influences of the Sympathetic Nervous System 01 is an interactive installation that invites viewers to break traditional gallery norms by engaging directly with the art. A large pink creature, made of silicone and seated on a black plexiglass stand with neon lighting, features arcade buttons embedded in its feet. These buttons, when pressed, change the narrative displayed on a screen within the creature’s face. Beneath its surface, servos animate the creature's legs, adding a dynamic, lifelike element to the piece.

This installation explores themes of agency, control, and shared storytelling. Each viewer’s interactions create unique narrative combinations, turning the audience into co-creators. By allowing direct interaction, the piece transforms the act of viewing into an evolving experience. It challenges the idea that art is to be passively observed, proposing instead that meaning is continuously shaped by engagement and personal choice. Through nostalgic and technological elements, Influences of the Sympathetic Nervous System emphasizes that art can be a shared, living experience.
