Default MOnster Pink

Default Monsters is a series of 3D-printed sculptures I created to transform rough, deskilled line drawings into collectible figures—each creature an expressive, monster-like form with exaggerated poses and wide-open mouths. Starting from simplified 2D sketches, I model each figure in a 3D computer graphics application, incorporating a base to give each piece a polished, collectible look. These creatures, while similar in form, each display unique, exaggerated expressions, exploring the tension between uniformity and individuality.

By adding bases, the figures echo the aesthetics of commercial collectibles, blurring the line between art and consumer goods. Inspired by the concept of “art as product” and the mass appeal of artists like Thomas Kinkade, Default Monster embraces precision and accessibility, positioning each figure as both an art object and a commodity. Through 3D printing and planned vinyl production, Default Monster critiques consumer culture’s impact on art, inviting reflection on how individuality can persist even within standardized forms.
